Hans Herzog Montepulciano 2008
- Region: Marborough
- Tasting Notes: A heady nose displaying flavours or cranberry and dark ripe plums, underpinned by liquorish and savoury overtones.
This is a complex blend of intense ripe fruit enveloped by fine tannins. A voluptuous, smooth and delicate wines which will age gracefully over the next 15 years.
The Hans Herzog Montepulciano is produced from extremely low yields that results in amazingly high concentration levels. The 2008 vintage produced a full-bodied and deep dark cherry coloured Montepulciano bursting with power, concentration and texture.
After a long wild yeast fermentation to enhance the dark colour and intense flavours, the wine was transferred and subsequently aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, partly new. The wine was then bottled without any fining or filtration.
