Runner Duck - Matakana

Clyde and Farida made a life decision, leave behind a successful business in colorful Mumbai and pursue their passion for wine. Falling in love with Matakana and it's surrounding landscape, they purchased their 3 hectare boutique vineyard, Runner Duck Estate on Duck Creek Road some 65 kilometres north of Auckland. The region, known for its fresh produce and artisan vineyards, has a temperate, coastal climate that contributes to the unique terroir of Runner Duck Estate.

Planted in 2003, it comprises about 1 hectare of Syrah, with the remainder being in Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Pinotage. Two wines were produced in 2007, a Syrah and a Red Blend. The distinct brand, apart from the fortuitous link with the nationality and historic career of the Runner Duck Estate's owners, reflects the shape of the Indian Runner Duck a breed of duck often linked to the shape of a wine bottle. While Clyde prefers to work on the Runner Duck property, Farida manages their restaurant at Heron's Flight, on Sharps Road, close by.
