Koru - Marlborough
Their goal with Koru, is to consistently create natural, individual wines, that showcase what New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are capable of. Both wines are made from a single small parcel (block) of vines, (each about 1 hectare) on soils ideal for the variety. They are truly terroir driven wines, and very limited in quantity – there are less than 800 cases, period. The Sauvignon Blanc vineyard is situated on the cool, lower terrace, of the Upper Wairau Valley, in Marlborough, and planted on stoney loam and silt soil, with low fertility. The Pinot Noir is from a single 1.1 hectare vineyard, which is essential to really claim terroir and the only way it can truly express its specific site. This vineyard is situated at the foot of Marlborough’s dry, Wither Hills, just outside Blenheim. It is planted on clay soils, which gives the wine great structure, and lovely savoury notes. The deep clay sub-soil also retains moisture well, and therefore limits the necessity for irrigation.
